Eddie was born in an Idaho town that had come into its own. The mountains were full of gold and the fields grew crops to sell. A good man was one who could whip someone. Any man who could not fight could not manage the problems of life. Eddie fought his way through school until he was fourteen. He gambled, sang and fought his way to adulthood. He married and had children. When his brother-in-law died life changed. He became converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a changed man. Would he be able to face an uncertain future with only an eighth grade education? Could he learn to lead with a smile and a handshake? Would his return to the place where he was born turn him back to the old habits and the fighting ways of a man who was wild 'n wooly and full of fleas.
