The Sabbath of Death is the third volume of provocative essays of Paul Toscano, one of the September Six, excommunicated from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for his outspoken criticism of its leadership. His essays, at once faithful and subversive, are grouped into three segments: Part I: Ignorance and Heresy, Part II: Poverty and Want, and Part III: Meditations on Mortality. Fearlessly Toscano attacks self-righteousness and self-atonement, homophobia and sex dysfunction, the follies of the so-called free market, and the exploitation of the underclass by self-interested elites that serve themselves by scapegoating others. His final meditations on the meaning of mortality are peppered with poetry and the unexpected. This book is not for the faint-hearted, not for those comforted by systematic theology, and certainly not for those who prize a foolish consistency.
