Eight-year old Sori Bernfeld and her younger sister Ruti are enjoying a charmed childhood. Miraculously, they manage to stay one step ahead of the enemy by constantly changing identities and fleeing to the rooftop in the middle of the night. Smuggled out of the Munkacevo ghetto, they pose as gentile children, and eventually leave Budapest with the famous Kasztner Transport. Diverted to Bergen-Belsen for six harrowing months, they witness the awesome holiness of the Satmar Rebbe and are eventually transported to Switzerland, on their way to Palestine and the establishment of the new state.
