"Medicinal plants are the backbone of traditional medicine". Plants are widely used as traditional medicine as they contain an array of chemical substances. Pharmacology is a branch of pharmaceutical science which deals with the study of drug which is obtained from a natural or endogenous molecule which exerts a biochemical or physiological effect on the cell, tissue, organ, or organism. Piper sarmentosum is a lesser-known rare species reported from North Bay of the South Andaman Islands in 2004 occurring along with sea level in isolated pockets. Since centuries ago, various parts of the taxon viz. leaves, fruits, and roots are widely used in Southeast Asian countries against various ailments such as hypertension, diabetes, joint aches, muscle pain, cough, influenza, toothache, and rheumatism. P. sarmentosum is a well-known plant species due to its culinary and medicinal properties. Various parts of the plant species, especially the leaf has much traditional medicinal value for the treatment of different diseases. The ethnomedicinal or traditional medicinal value of P. sarmentosum indicated for the precise scientific evaluation of the pharmacological analysis of the plant.
