Updated as of May 29, 2018 The purpose of this request for comments is to acquire updated information regarding vehicle manufacturers' future product plans to assist the agency in assessing what corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards should be established for passenger cars and light trucks manufactured in model years 2017 and beyond. NHTSA must establish CAFE standards pursuant to the Energy Policy and Conservation Act, Public Law 94-163, as amended by the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007, Public Law 110-140. This request is being issued in preparation for an upcoming Joint Notice of Proposed Rulemaking being undertaken by NHTSA and EPA regarding future CAFE and greenhouse gas (GHG) standards currently anticipated to be released by September 30, 2011.
