A college Junor joins the Marines the day after Pearal Harbor and becomes the Audie Murphy of the Pacific theater. A returning war hero, Lieutenant Ben Garrett settles in San Diego with his two best friends, Frank Russo and Harry Thornton. Ben marries Kate Jones and becomes a father to his two wonderful sons, Art and Walt. Frank Russo Jr. opens an Italian resturant and has a secret. Harry Thornton joins the San Diego police force. Ben has a sucessful small contracting business and everybocy is happy. Then Ben finds out about Frank's secret. The Russo family business is a mafia operation and Frank Sr, shows up to ask Frank Jr. to return to Chicago to take over the fanily business. Frank says no and Ben shows up and meets Frank Sr, and thanks Ben for saving his son's life during the war. A year later a war breaks out between the Russo family and the other three families because the Russo family refuses to get involve with dirty vices. Frank's father send a large soldier named, Bruno to be Frank's bodyguard and bartender and it was a good thing because two assassins showed up several months later at Russo's to kill Frank and Bruno. It was a Friday night and Ben and Harry was there helping on Frank's busiest night. Ben managed to kill one of them and detective Harry Thornton killed the other one. Bruno check the bodies and one of them was Mark Lancione. The oldest son of Godfather Tony Lancione Sr. the largest of the three mafia families. It was a month later when Frank's father and older brother killed. That made up Frank's mind to return to Chicago and stop this war. Ben went along encase his best friend needed help. A meeting was arranged between the Russo an Lancione families to talk. Johnny Russo sent two soldier to see if they really came to talk. Shortly, the shooting started and two soldier came running back shouting, "Its a setup." One of the soldiers was shot in the back and Ben pick up his pistol and every time Ben fire it down went another attacker. Ben was covering Frank's back when suddenly he heard something behind him. Quickly turning, Ben saw a attacker about to shoot Frank in the back, but Ben was quicker. Ben had just killed Tony Lancione Sr. and Frank had Bruno take Ben and his family into hiding.
