GridIron On The Great Lake - The 1918 Fort Ontario Army Football Team is about the service squad stationed in Oswego, NY during the war years. It not only includes detailed game accounts of the soldiers eleven but also life at the fort. Fort Ontario was converted to a hospital for the war with the team being made up of various ethnic, religious and social status representatives. Besides the highly successful fort team there is information on Syracuse University's 1918 team, local semi-professional teams, stateside and European service squads. The book contains details on the city's homegrown soldiers, the 108th Company D (known as Oswego's Own). There is also a chapter on the influenza epidemic that not only decimated the team but the country and world. There are other tidbits on what life was like in 1918 Oswego as well as at the army base.
