Glenn Vondra's experience as a writer, retired architect, outdoorsman and conservationist evolved into a desire to express his love for the natural world. Always open to learning something new, he studied the ancient Japanese verse: Tanka poetry. He writes, "I have found a vehicle that allows me to reflect upon the natural flora and fauna of the world." Vondra not only uses poetic words and form to reflect on the plants and animals of the world, he draws them. These fanciful, beautiful drawings give added power to his words. While working on his poems and drawings, Vondra first thought of adults as his likely audience. But as the writing and drawing continued, he more and more imagined young readers, readers who will find the poems easy to comprehend. He introduces these readers to parts of the natural world they might never see, hoping they will come to both delight in and care for this planet we call home.
