For now, Canon's fast aging, religious Granny Ruthie needs care, and for her he must pass parole and be integrated to free society. He swears that after the parole is over and she departs to the great beyond, he will leave the state and his past behind him. Between the divine and the works of men will he pass the parole or ever be able to leave the state with all his heart?
