The fourteen fascinating, true crime stories in this book describe the murder of a parent by a daughter. Such parricides are rare and have a devastating effect on families which is felt for many generations. Are the perpetrators really wicked, selfish and uncaring people? Some of them are, but sadly some of them are women who feel betrayed and readers may feel sympathy for them in the dilemmas they face as they seek an answer to their problems. Of course, some murders are committed by people with a mental illness, such as Mary Lamb who suffered from manic depression (now known as bi-polar). The background has been carefully researched and is a study of English Social History with attitudes to laws and punishment somewhat different from those of the twenty-first century.
