When Robert Copsewell is invalided out of the Greater Manchester Police force after being stabbed, he decides, rather than sit idle, to open a Private detective Agency. An adversary from the past resurfaces and as an act of vindictiveness and revenge kidnaps Copsewell's wife and secretes her in an abandoned farmhouse. A ransom of 250000 is demanded. Whilst at the farmhouse, things go wrong during an attempted rape and the kidnapper's associate meets a bloody and brutal end. The main kidnapper flees with the ransom money and a cat and mouse chase ensues until the final cataclysmic denouement.
